Default What's wrong with this picture?

Sold my '78. Still looking for a chrome bumper to replace it. Found this one, owner emailed me a pic. First look, I thought, "damned nice car!" Second look, I thought, "uh-oh, that's definitely not right." Can you spot the problem? I knew you could!

This reminds me of the pictures with the 12 things that are missing. Good eyes Pedro - no badge. This is a '69 right? Is the molding on the side of the car incorrect? There BETTER be something wrong JB because I just spend 10 minutes looking for it! :mad :jester

The carburetor, although correctly numbered, is dated 1 week AFTER the build date of the car, hence, incorrect! Otherwise, the car is perfect.

(NFI)

it is 70- 72 (not 69). I can never tell those 3 yrs apart...

Would I jerk with you? :D

Look closely at the door. Then look closely at the side vent.

That's what I'm going to tell you. It's actually the other way around--it's supposed to be a '68 & it looks like it has a '70-'72 front clip.

C'mon MJ, you really couldn't see that shiny silver button in that pic? :D

I don't see anything wrong here either if it's a 70-72.

Cant really tell - i have mistaken 69 shiny keyholes for 68 pushbuttons!!

That sure dont look like a 68!! vents are 70-72, also appears to have fender flares (like you said, entire front clip could be 70 - 72) Rocker panels (is that what you call them) are also 70-72. MJ

In my book, the vents could be placed behind the rear wheels, and the door buttons could be on the hood. That's still a sweet Vette. How much?

is it a 68 or 70 something??? it looks like it has the round tailpipes like a 68....i think the push buttons are really the lock where the key goes to open the door...

Sorry, don't get that one joeveto

It has the 68 doorlock buttons and the 68/69 rear clip but a 70- front clip. We could tell more by looking at the engine and the dash.

More pics please :D

It's a 68 with 70-72 vents! The size of the side marker lamps was smaller in 68 and 69 and the push button only came on 68 Vettes! Also the location of the rearview mirror is the same as on a 68 Vette. In 69 they moved it farther to the back!

Olivier

I'll post then read on...
What's wrong depends on whether it's advertised as a 68/69 or a 70/72.. The front and rear clips are from decidely different years. Can't see the lights to tell if the front is a 70/71 or a 72 but the rear is definetly a 68 or 69. Easiest way to tell is the side vent and fender "swells" on the front and the lack of fender swells on the rear. Plus, it looks like an early lock on the door and the seats set too low to be a 70s car. So it's a 68 or 69 that has been crunched and the entire front clip replaced?
How'd I do coach? Miss anything? (exhaust is wrong for a 70 too).

Ok, read the string, it's a '68! LOL, I was close.... :D

It could be that the whole front has been replaced with a 70 - 72 front, but the base car is a 68!
