If you are not having any noise, play or rough feel when spinning the wheel while it is off the ground then the next step is to do a visual ck.. The rollers and races can turn blue due to heat or pit due to corosion or extreme wear. Pull and clean bearings to inspect. How long since they were serviced/replaced? mike...
The only way to check a wheel bearing is to remove it and wash it clean with varsol and a brush ( don't use gasoline , it's dangerous ) . Then inspect the rollers and the race in the hub for pitting or evidence of over heating ( blueing color ) or wear . If you see anything suspicous put in new bearings and races .
You can buy a cheap bearing packer that you pump up with your greace gun to pack them with clean greace .
Bill
PS Do not spin the bearing with an air nozzle , it could come apart and you will be very sorry !

Not sure when they were last packed, but I did get new rotors installed about 2 years ago. I've always heard that if any mechanic is worth his weight, when he changes the rotors, he should install & pack new wheel bearings. Is that true? Do you replace the front wheel bearings when you replace the front rotors?
They're not making any noise or anything, but it's something I thought about as a preventative maintenance thing. What should I look for? Listen for?
I know on my 1980, the driver's side wheel bearing in the back sounded like one of those big aggressive 4x4 tires on the highway. I got a case of the "while-I'm-at-its" and ended up replacing the trailing arms.

Nope- nothing to do with each other, no connection.
