Default oil filter confusion

So i picked up oil and a oil filter for my 79 that i just bought at napa. the new filter that they told me would work is only half as long as the one it will replace. This seems kind of odd to me. Is this right or did they give me the wrong filter?

There is a long and a short version. As long as the diameter is the same and the pickups/threads are the same it is fine to use the short filter. The shorter one is more convenient if you have headers.

Longer filter gives you more surface area. Small filter wont hurt unless you have dirty oil or go excessive times between oil changes. In which case is I would be more worried about the oil braking down unless your using synthetic.

They probably gave you their equivalent of the factory-recommended Delco PF-25. No problem with that although it is somewhat small. I prefer their #1061 which is similar in size to the old Delco PF-35.
