I have an 81' corvette with what we were told a ZZ4 crate engine. It's been neglected for quite some time and I'm just now getting back into things.
I opened the hood up and found a rubber hose that seemed to have broken off from another part. I hope you can see what I'm talking about in the picture (circled in blue).
What is this part? And exactly what can it cause trouble with? I appreciate your help in advance, thank you!

There is a hose that goes from the check valve (circled in your picture) to the A.I.R. system diverter valve that is bolted to the A.I.R. pump (ie smog pump). Doesn't look like you have a smog pump in the picture. It appears the check valve hose connection has been cut off and plugged to prevent a underhood exhaust leak (the check valves do not seal that well).
It actually looks like the P.O. may have just connected the two sides together at one time. At least I hope that hose running from the passenger check valve is just hanging loose and not actually connected to the driver side valve cover!
If you can get away without having an AIR pump in your area I would remove and discard that long hose, remove the diverter valves on both sides (they are threaded on), and plug the valve inlets on the exhaust manifolds.
