Default MSD distributor bottoming out

Has anyone ever heard of a distributor bottoming out on the oil pump shaft? I have an MSD pro-billet dist and a melling pump with the hardened pump shaft. I had a bad leak at the base of my distributor, so I checked it and realized it wasnt even seating on the manifold. I even shimmed it up with 3 gaskets total and it is still not sealing all the way.
The block is decked, and I dont use front and rear gaskets on the intake. When I pulled the dist out, there was a bad wear pattern starting to show on the gear , so the fact that the block is decked has nothing to do with it not seating all the way when it is shimmed.
Is it possible that the oil pump shaft is too long for the distributor? Can I machine it down? I never had this problem with my stock tach drive dizzy...

Heads are bone stock out of the box AFRs.
Cam location did not change, and according to the new wear pattern on my distributor gear, shimming it up is NOT the answer.

FYI for anyone who isnt picturing this... shimming the dist up is equivalent to having the heads and intake in the stock location ie: no milling anything

Assuming it's a std housing and not one with an adjustable slip collar?

Otherwise,,can you do some measuring against the old stuff? Depth of slot in gear? Total length etc? Maybe you can take a little off the end of the gear...but 3 gaskets is a lot.

So if you drop the old distributor back in it as it sits it's perfect?

Yeah, no adjustable collar. I guess Im going to have to pull it out and take some measurements.

Before you dive into the block to pull out the oil pump shaft, why don't you measure your MSD distributor against a stock distributor and compare to see if they are the same. Maybe your MSD dizzy is a different measurement than a stock distributor. Might not have anything to do with the oil drive at all. Start with the simple before you make a lot of work for yourself. Good luck!

Are you using a new pump shaft? It is possible you may have been sold BBC shaft by mistake and it is longer.
