I just got my new tach circuit board from Willcox. I forgot I needed the filter too. Will I destroy the new board without a filter ?
It will not hurt the board. In fact, we actually advise people to use the distributor connection to do a hard wire test before installing it back in the car.
Use power and ground from the engine compartment with no signal wire attached and this will give you zero.... for doing the zero set to install the needle. Then attach a jumper wire from the distributor to test.
The filter smooths the signal and keeps interference out but thats it so you'll be fine until you order one.
