I am looking to get new heads for my 81 Corvette. Does the shape/ style of my piston head make a difference for what heads I should get? My plans are to change the heads then the cam shaft then put new headers and side exhaust on it. Like I said, where do I need to begin my search for a new set of heads?
Thanks so much,
Matthew

Piston shape can be a factor when choosing heads, but typically only in race engine applications.
It wont be an issue for you.
The heads that you need will be determined by your ultimate goals for your engine.
Considering your stepped approach that you plan to take, I would say look for something with about a 180cc runner.
There are quite a few manufacturers that can sell you what you need. Your budget will be somewhat of a factor.

You should contact Tony Barker and let him set you up with an intake, cam and IK180 Aluminum heads. A nice package like that is built to work good together, can't beat it. Just google Tony Barker.
Would 180cc give me too much compression? Like would it be close to 11:1, because I dont want to have to run racing fuel in it.

The 180cc refers to the volume of the intake port, if I am not mistaken, (and believe me, if I am, someone will let me know, heh heh.) It has nothing to do with compression, what you are thinking of is combustion chamber volume.
I'm not saying this to be mean, or to bust your chops, but you don't seem to know a whole lot about engines. I mean, you don't seem to have the vocabulary to understand the answers to the questions you are asking. You should give some thought to doing some studying up on the subject, as internal combustion engines are relatively complicated, far to complicated to explain thoroughly on a forum like this. Could someone out there maybe point this guy in the right direction regarding some sort of reference material?
