Default oil pressure guage

I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to working on my car. I do try however. I had my L82 rebuilt and now the oil pressure guage is pegged. Where do i look to find out if it is indeed attached correctly?

The sensor/sender is just above the oil filter. A simple, one-wire spade connection.

Pegged high ? If the wire to the sender falls off the gauge will peg high,or if the wire breaks it will peg high. In other words an open circuit between the sender and gauge will cause it to peg high.A bad sender can also cause the same problem.

On some cars the guage is located under the distrubutor on the back of the block.

On my 80 and 81 models the sending unit (pictured above) is located at the top of the motor, behind the distributor. New ones can be had at just about any parts house. AutoZone furnished my last new one.
Check the wire connection at the sending unit,it may have fallen off and can't get back up !

I don't know about GM but NAPA will have it. Be sure to get one for a "gauge" and not one for an "idiot light."

Pegging high can be cause by an idiot light sender instead of oil pressure sender.

The best thing to do is see if the sending unit wire is plugged in to the sender. If it is plugged in then unplug it and see if the gauge falls to zero. If this happens replace the sending unit.

If this doesn't happen then you have an issue between the wire at the sender and the dash unit. But I'm betting you have either a wire off.. or a defective sending unit.
