Default 78 shift linkage

my shifter linkage pin broke and i have a new pin for it but the arm doesnt reach to where i need to put the pin in at. any suggestions?

the rod in both pics are suppose to go in that hole in the background but cant seem to get it back far enough to fit it in. not that great with cars but i know it cant be that hard to fix. im thinking since its stuck in 4th gear maybe theres alot of pressure on it, and if i get the car off the ground i can push it back easier

Your right that's a bad pic.
Anyway if the tranny is in 4th you should be able to put the shifter in 4th and the rod should be at the hole.
Maybe there's something else going on ?

any chance thats the reverse lever linkage and you have to pull the tailhousing off to reinsert the rod and install the pin?

well i just fixed it. there was actually a top mount that it fit in and than i just stuck the cotter pin through. im still trying to figure out what the bottom mount is for since there is nothing connected to it..
