Default Flowtech 31106FLT on 1980

Hey, all, I have block hugger headers on my 1980 L48 'vette, but I'm thinking about upgrading to long tube headers, has anybody used these?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-31106FLT/

Or the painted version?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BIG-11106FLT/

Or summit's version? (I think they are exactly the same as the flowtech)

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G9003/

I'm looking for info on how they fit, how is the ground clearance, etc. I'm planning on using ceramic coated headers, but if you have the painted version, any fit or clearance info will help me out. Thanks,

Scott

I used to have a set of the ceramic coated and they rusted in less than a year.

I have the painted version on my car right now(1981),i stripped off the paint when new and re-coated with VHT hi-temp paint. So far paint looks good and this is on a fresh engine that makes a little more heat than usual.
As far as fit, i had no problems with interference and ground clearance is good,my car sits low to begin with. The collector ends have a slight downward tilt, but not bad at all.

I also picked up a set of the ceramics when everyone was saying how nice they were,Phill is the first person i heard of that has rust issues.
Don't know if i will use them because i am planning a big block swap in the near future.

I specifically asked about fit, but any quality info like the above is welcome also. Thanks,

I have used the high-temp header paint in the past with poor results, but I have never used the VHT brand, is that the trick? 'Cuz I'll get the cheapies and paint them with the VHT if it'll work. It's a pretty mild engine, ya know, stock cam and heads, so far.

How is it getting at the spark plugs? Are the header bolts easy to get at?

You need to follow the directions on the vht can, strip off old paint and after painted bake them several heat cycles in a oven.

So, they will fit inside a normal oven, huh? I think I'm gonna give it a try, what the hell, if it don't work, I'll have them done professionally.

Yes they will fit in a regular oven one at a time if you remove the extra racks.
