I have a '75 that had the starter go out,
when i removed it I noticed that the new corvette central exhaust i got is Really close to the starter, almost touching.
It's so close that I'm kinda thinking that it may have helped kill the starter.
I looked at the replacements and their the same size as the original.
So now I'm wondering if i should get a mini starter.
is it normal for the exhaust to be so close?
would a new starter be ok?
or should I continue looking for a mini starter?

How close is close? Can you make a heat shield out of galvanized sheet metal or a piece of AL with small tangs which could be used to clamp it to the exhaust pipe?
Mini starters have been used in many applications in the Corvette and hot rod scene with good results.

it's so close that adding some sheet metal would make them touch, you could slide a sheet of paper between them.
and thanks for your reply.
I would go with a mini torque starter and did on my vette. If someone wanted the original style starter back in it is a fairly easy job. The mini's work so much better as well.
R terminal is for points type ignition. My current starter close to the exhaust header collector. I can only loosen the bolts and they touch the header collector. I am going to remove it in replace it with a mini starter I bought off of fleabay. Once replace =d, I should have enough room to remove the starter should I need to and wont have to do with the hot start issue. (due to the weak solenoids on most aftermarket regular starters)
Do you have the heat riser flapper thingy in place between the manifold and pipe?
If not, isn't there like a 2" spacer that goes in it's place?
Sorry it takes me so long to reply, I've had a busy week and just got it fixed today.
And that spacer supplied with the exhaust pipe set was the problem, it was about 3/4" shorter then the flap assembly.
So i ended up taking thew flap assembly apart, tapped the hole and put a bolt in it.
i reinstalled it today and now the pipe is a nice distance away from the starter.
