We had a new experience this evening. We parked the 70 in a parking lot on a slight upgrade. When it was time to leave, I could not get the transmission into reverse or neutral. When I parked it I put it in neutral so this puzzles me. I could not get much side to side movement either. I have to think it's a linkage problem but I'm not sure where to start since I have already done the adjusting nuts on the clucth arm in the past. I have upon occasion had trouble getting it to shift into 1st gear but the rest of the gears have been fine. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Sure sounds like a jammed shifter linkage to me. once you get under the car try to get all the arms on the shifter lined up in the centre of their throw. A little help from a hammer may be required.
Once this is done find the centre of each 1-2 & 3-4 throw on the transmission & see if the arms on the shifter are still lined up. If not slip a small 1/4" rod into the hole in the shifter to hold all the shifter arms lined up in the centre. Once this is done adjust shifter rods to line up with the centre position on the transmission.

I hope I made that clear.....

This looks like a bigger pain than I thought it would be. I can't see anything it's so packed under neath. I took the boot off from the top but can't see much there either. I'm guessing some exhaust has to be removed first. Can the shifter be removed from the top to rebuild it? Right now I can get it into a position to remove the key but I don't believe it is reverse since I can't back up. It acts like the brake is on so I'm guessing a linkage mess. I can't see the slot for the alignment tool either. What do you suggest? Thanks.

Sounds like the shifter is out of synch.

I did find one linkage bolt that was slightly loose which may have started the whole problem. I don't mind dealing with a problem when I can see it & get to it but this is a pain.

Sounds to me like it's in 2 gears.
