I just had my rear suspension rebuilt. I was VERY happy with the results, and asked the guy specifically the same question you are asking. I told him I was thinking of having the shocks replaced in the not too distant future, and I asked him if it was worth paying for Bilstein's, he said definitely not, he recommended that I go with KYB's.

I have KYB's.... And like them,,,, I have never driven a car with bilsteins.. SO cant compair...One of these days I would like to try a car with a set.....
If your wanting a very good riding shock and are not looking for the best handling shock, I highly recommend KYB GR2's. If you have a composite spring, get the GR2's from VBP that are specially valved for that application. Be careful .. don't confuse the GR2's (grey shocks) with the standard KYB's (white shocks). The KYB standard shocks are high pressure and ride much stiffer than the GR2's.
I've ran other better handling shocks, but I have yet to find a better riding shock.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH now this makes sence ,,,,I have the white...
Maybe ill switch to the others and see how those are....
White=stiff I guess....LOL....I got almost 30k in 4 + years on them anyway...=)
Bilstein Sport shocks are very hard but are excellent performance shocks. I have them on my 80'. I had Monroe shocks (leaked after 2 years) on my suv that road harder than my new Bistein HD shocks that I put on it. The HD shocks seem to perform better and ride better than the Monroe. I know for our corvettes, that they only sell sport shocks for the fronts, but have a choice for either the Sport or HD shocks for the rear. I would guess that it would still perform great and have a better ride with the Sports on front and HDs on the rear. Anybody have that Bilstein combo?

I just put a set of four AC/Delco shocks on my 68 BB. Big improvement. You'll be fine with the KYB but the AC's are a reasonably priced and good performing shock.
Just had a complete set of KYB's put on my 78SA and they are much better than the OE Delcos. Although it is only a weekend driver they did make a difference.
