Doing some future planning and have a question (actually a bunch of questions, but will start with this one).
Stock type fresh short block.
I am considering Scoggins Dickey modified Vortec heads, I'd like to keep my quadrajet, so how much power am I potentially leaving on the table by needing a spread bore intake (Edelbrock Performer) vs going with a square bore and using the Air Gap?
Street driven, occasional auto-x, some daily driving in this cars future.
Ok, two questions...what cam recommendations for the above?
Thanks,
Russ (dreaming of driving my '70 instead of dusting it in the garage)
I have Vortec heads and a Qjet. I was using an Edel. Performer (not RPM). I switched to an Edel. RPM air gap which required an adapter to use with the Qjet as you apparently know. I drag race my car occasionally and I believe I actually slowed down a tenth by changing manifolds. Some theorize its the adapter that is the problem. I'm not sure, but overall I don't think you're giving up much using the Performer. As for camshafts, I'm using a Comp XE262 flat tappet hydraulic. Excellent low and mid range power. Probably good for autocrossing.
I have installed two engines W/ vortec heads, & installed two new intakes, with the Q-jet carb. Maybe you could pose this Question directly to Edelbrock! I think they have a help line. Have a great day. Gene
