I seem to have a rich running car. It is a 1976 L-48 automatic. It is misfiring and I check the plugs and some are black. I am told that this is fuel and it is running rich (lots of moisture seems to come from tailpipe...is this water or unburnt fuel?)
I have set up the Rochester and it idles fine but misfires or skips when accelerating (usually around 1500rpm) The idle mixture screws seem to be out quite a bit.
Is there possibly a setting inside the carb that I have missed? Is the fuel pump putting out too much pressure or perhaps a blocked fuel return line?
Did you "adjust" the APT screw. Full traver up should be about 8 rotations but when working wigh a new combo, I start at 3.5 turnns up and see how she 'feels'. If no surging, go down a half turn at at time until it surges when cruising, then back 1/4 turn at a time until it goes away.
