Default Power windows on '76

I checked the threads and still have a question regarding power windows.

When I first got the car, both windows wouldn't go up or down, however - the motors work. I sprayed the regulators with penetrating oil yesterday.

Today, I kept putting the windows up and down with assistance:

1) Now the passenger side will go up and down on it's own (as long as you don't put it all the way up - if you do, it will not go down unless you push down on the window.)

2) The driver's side will not go up or down without assistance and when it does work it only moves 2-3 inches and then locks up. The glass seems to move more freely (I can pull it up or push it down pretty easily)

I'm thinking to let them soak a little longer and see how they work tomorrow. The driver's side seems to be an issue with the way the window may or may not be seated in the track/regulator and I guess I'll have to get into the door more to figure it out.

The driver's side motor appears to have been worked on by Bubba as it is rigged onto the door by metal wire and has no bolts or rivets.

I'm hoping the passenger side window will free up overnight and enable me to put the window up and down without locking up when I check it tomorrow.

I checked prices and Autozone appears to be the least expensive, but think it may be premature at this point.

Any ideas?

Minor technical question - I think the power window buttons are upside down - if I push the button forward towards the engine - the windows go down. If I push the buttons down towards the rear - the windows go up. Shouldn't this be the other way around?

Thanks!

Check the wiring. Bad wiring will lower the current to the motor so that will slow it down. Lubricate everything that needs it. Clean everything that should be clean.

If you need to replace parts check around. Sometimes the best price isn't the best option.

As for the direction of the buttons, I believe that my 1976 is the opposite of later cars. I could be wrong though...or perhaps my buttons are reversed as well.
