E-brake handle - Oh no!

E-brake handle - Oh no!
So I lifted up my ebrake handle a bit the other day while cleaning (not enough to click into place) and kupwang! my button goes flying off and the spring shoots out...I have a small crack on the button now. I put the spring back in and pushed the button back in place but the button doesn't press in anymore. I'm scared to even try to use the ebrake for fear it will get stuck on! Can I replace the button or do I have to replace the whole handle? And if so...how in the world can I pull the handle off without have to disassemble the entire mechanism? Oh no!

I just happened to have read it a few days ago. The search function rarely finds what I am looking for so I just post the questions anyway. Never know what new info is out their since the last posting anyway.
I'll recommend a search when I know there are multiple things out there to help but will never complain because someone didn't use search first.

If I push in on the rod inside the handle it will wiggle but not depress (without the ebrake engaged). Is that normal? I would like to be able to use the brake and just push in on the rod to disengage the brake. Is that how it works? I'm afraid to try since I don't want my brake to get stuck in place.
