Default Harmonic Balancer for 1975 L48

Does anyone know what size balancer is on a stock 1975 L48 with a "J" in the vin number? Mine is coming apart and I would like to go ahead and order one before I start taking it apart. Is there a certain brand that is better than another? Just looking to go back with a stock replacement as I will be building another engine in the near future. Thanks

A lot of times when I need a stock part like that I go to my local Chevy dealer, the price always seems to be good and the parts always fit. Thats my 2 cents worth. Good Luck

Google Damper Dudes, They are in California. They sell rebuilt ones and ship reasonably. I needed one for my 71 LT1 last March and they were good .

I ended up ordering one from my local Autozone. Is it a good idea to go ahead and replace the front crank seal while I have the balancer off or don't worry with it if it hasn't been leaking?

Not looking forward to having to get the fan shroud back in position. I am almost tempted to go ahead and order the DeWitts radiator/dual fan combo I have been wanting.

Pioneer, GMPP and Summit house brand all offer reasonably priced replacements.

I'd definitely replace the seal while things are apart. It's always a bummer to have to take things apart a second time. If you don't, it will probably start leaking about a week after you put it together.

It is possible to replace the seal without having to remove the timing chain cover isn't it?

Thanks guys. Got home and got the balancer off and the seal out. Will be ready to install new seal and balancer in the morning. Wasn't too difficult of a job.

That along with a group purchase is that convinced me to buy the DeWitts combo!
