My 74 coupe has no factory options...no power steering, power brakes, no AC -- It's also a 4 speed. I found something on the net awhile back about '74 production...as I recall, very few vettes in '74 were produced without any options, am I mistaken?
I am actually happy it's a base model, less to go wrong!
:hat
Not sure about actual #'s - but you're probably right. :chevy
Good thing you have the 4-speed (that's the most important),
'course then again - I'm partial to standard shifting -
i'm not sure actually...i know the 2 previous owners, but not the original owner...i'll ask the second owner, he might know. it has a custom autosound radio right now, the FM bands don't work, but do I care? NO! all I need is the sound of that 350 V8! it's an L-48 by the way...another question....the original owner removed the smog pump...how hard and expensive is that to replace? I don't know if I should, the car still passes California Emissions! :jester
Don't know about the 4 speeds, but the L-48 auto did not have the pumps.
My 74 is a pretty low option car too. Now power brakes, no air. The only options are Gymkhana suspension, auto, power windows, power steering.
i'm pretty sure this car originally had the pumps because the holes on the exhaust manifold have been plugged with those brass pipe plug thingys...interesting that the '74 autos didn't have the pumps.
No such thing as radio delete. To have an option of radio delete the radio would have to be standard equipment. It wasn't, it was an option.
As far as 74's with no optional equipment, they have got to be far and few between. There were 37,502 built. 35,994 had power steering. 33,306 had power brakes. And 29,397 had A/C. That does not leave too many.
By the way, if it did not have a radio, then it did not come with ignition shielding.
Yea, only the '74 automatic federal emissions came with no AIR pump.
I think you're lucky to have a car with no options. The less crap under the hood the better! My car has no AC, and no power brake, and wish I had no power steering.
BTW, congrats on your first Vette, and welcome to the forum! My '74 is my first car!
Geesh, your '74 passed smog without a smog pump and with the air injector holes plugged?! What's the name of the smog station you took it to there in the Valley?
I'm in the San Gabriel Valley and all the smog shops out here do an underhood visual inspection for necessary components related to vehicle year. They would have failed me right off for not having a smog pump. I wanna rip off my pump and take my '76 where you took your '74.
Yeah! Suprised? I don't think those smog pumps really do much anyways. The original owner removed the pump (car was originally purchased in Colorado), and this car has been in california for the past 15-20 years....Joe, the previous owner, always took the vette to the same mechanic. This mechanic doesn't do smog testing at his facility, he takes it "somewhere" else...But lets face it, THE CAR PASSES, and there is no way to cheat a smog test these days (these folks just don't look under the hood)...email me for the full scoop - viceroy3@yahoo.com...even though i plan on doing as much of the mechanical work on my vette as possible, i'll still take it to this guy for the stuff i can't figure out. This mechanic works on a lot of vintage cars, and i even think he owns a vette himself... He has a lot of repeat buisness (he has been at the same location for over 20 years), and he is in the San Gabriel Valley...The work is slow, but it is always done right. Since you live in SOCAL, can you recommend a good Paint and Body shop? I wanna get my beast lookin like new! I wish my car was a '73 then i wouldn't have to worry about this crap....but no such luck!
