My right blinker was not working properly (both flashers would go when I turned on the right) so I replaced the bulb as someone suggested. Well, now the right brake light comes on when I turn on the running lights, and when the running lights are off, and I put on the brakes, the running light element comes on, not the brake element. The left side has no problems at all. I almost forgot, when I turn on the right blinker now, it will only work if I don't put on the brakes. Can anyone help me kill this gremlin?
Do you think this could be corrosion in the light socket? Is it possible to not turn the bulb all the way in the socket, causing the running light element to be connected the brake light circuit?
I garauntee its a ground problem. Crawl under the rear, and look up at the tailight assemblies. Look for where wires are grounded on the frame. Take them off, clean the ground wire and frame where the wire connects
I had the same prob on my 68. Cleared it right up
I would check the socket as you mentioned as well. Look closely
This is a shot in the dark... I looked to see if you had a 4 speed car which you do, and your symptoms sound alot like mine. Here's what mine problem was. There is a "e-clip" on the clutch pedal (I forget actually what it does/hold) but what was happening is the clip actually wore into a wire on my harness and was causing major havoc with my taillights. Check underneath the dash for the harness that runs very close to the clutch pedal on top and see if you notice any bare wires. Just a shot in the dark, but it was hell trying to find out what was causing mine.
Thanks all for the reply's. I will check all those things tonight. I forgot to mention that this problem started out of the blue. Based on your suggestions, and this knowledge, it sounds like I could have two problems. It could be the under dash wire or ground, and the socket in backwards.
