Default 69 Needs a rear I think.

I've had this car only for 6 mth's and don't know what has been done to it. The car is very clean so I know it's been restored some what. I'm getting a clanking noise coming from the rear when I let off the gas and then back on, I beleive the rear has excess clearence, how can I check how much wear is present. I live in Carroll County Maryland, if any one knows of a good Vette mechanic. I can do most mechanicial stuff but have a bad back and limited on what I can handle. Thanks

a common cause of a noise from on and off the gas can be the front differential mounting cushions. I would check those before ripping apart the differential. If thats not it the other internal cause can be the ring gear bolts loosening from the carrier assembly.

Let me list all the things I have replaced;the "u" joints all of them, the cushions for the front rear mounting like you had suggested, brakes, shocks, front steering to power rack & pinion, all ball joints, control arm bushings, rear strut rod. I think that's it. Thanks for helping, any other info is appreciated.

Where do I find the ring gear bolts?

Ring gear bolts are inside the differential. Very unlikely that these loosen up. I have ripped some out with to much HP but if the rear has survived this long it is doubtful these are the culprit.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back. I tried what you suggested, it looks and feels like I have about 1/2" play in the rear, before the drive shaft moves, and it sounds like what I have been hearing. Since then I notice it more an more. When at low speed around 30 mph, I let off the gas and then on, every time I do this you you can hear that clanging noise, you can almost feel it. I have an appointment with a so called Vette expect in Frederick Md on Tuesday. He is going over the whole car, so I'll let you know the results.
