Hi I'm new here. just bought a 1981 c3. last week the choke light and batter light came on and stayed on. The engine was running high idle and hot. After searching a few forums I learned that it might be a bad alt. So I had it checked and it was not working. I replaced it and everything was in working order. Now today the same thing happend as I was pulling it into a shop bay to have wheels balanced. Started it up and choke/batter lights stayed on. They checked the alt and it was putting out 19 volt and checked the battery while car was running and only 12 there. Could use some help in this area please.
i had same problem recently, mine was the exciter wires going from harness to alt.Autozone has a pigtail , so I replace it and troubles went away.
Good luck
