I currently do not own a corvette but I am looking at a '74. It has 44k original miles. This car has been sitting in a garage and not driven since 1994. The "rescuer" who is now selling it has taken off the heads to ensure there was no rust and has changed all the fluids and driven it around the block. I am still concerned that I may have serious leaks throughout the car once I start driving it on a regular basis. Any thoughts, suggestions, etc.?
Yes Sir; Yes, you will need to plan, to change any & all rubber. hoses, belts, heater core, radiator, A arm bushings, trailing arm bushings, & all grease in all bearings will have to be changed. But this would be normal on a car of this age. If you don't wish to pay, or can not do your own work, buy one that has most or all of this work completed. Buying a car of this age, Corvette or other, there could be a lot of Rust, in the Frame &/or Birdcage. If you know nothing about Corvettes, find a friend or person who does, to inspect it for you. Do not buy a Pig in a Polk. Have a great day. Gene
Thanks! It was stored in a heated/a.c.'d garage and during that time the front and rear bumper facia's have deteorated and need to be replaced.
If that is the case, you can count on every other rubber piece having deteriorated, too. Just sitting for long periods of time is the worst thing you can do to a car.
