Default Crane cam

Has anyone ever run this cam in a big block Chevy, and if so, did you have any timing issues with it?

I've run several Crane cams with very good results, but you're really wanting to see the whole cam card with duration @ 0.50 lift, ext, compared to what you're already running. Maybe even wanting a dual pattern design with different intake/exhuast durations. Crane has a pretty good tech phone line to help with the proper choice for your combo. Everything plays in to account here. Cu in, compression, intake/exuast, head flow, ext. More importantly, rpm, street or strip usage. If you're talking about lots of added timing advance to keep it running on the street, probably to much cam for the combo. Give Crane a call.

Here is more info. Old school grind with slow ramps. There are better choices.

you are wrong mako, that summit is hyd, l-88 was solid, can't compare apples to oranges. I have run the old school l-88 solid cam on street, makes lots of up top power but NEEDS open headers and big carb(850+) to work, kinda a dog on low end and not a good street cam. also the newer "fast" ramps are cam killers so if you run on street and don't want to change cams often, stay away from the fast ramps.

I ran the 10307 226* /533" /108 LSA in a low buck 454 for a year in my 1970 Elky. Great cam. Took my street-geared BOAT (400#) Elky into the 12.70s in 2009. Good manners, torque out the wazoo.

The 10306 at 228*/.544"/112 LSA is also a great street cam. I have known several of the fellas that have used those cams. Use this cam if you have a bit more compression than I had (8.8:1).

Will you notice the power difference between thes old CLASSIC cams and the latest grind being bragged about by the car magazines? Depends on the build AND THE COMBINATION.

Let me tell you, the Isky 280 Mega is a powerhouse. 'old grind' just a tad more aggressive than these two. VORTECPRO, Mark Jones, uses this classic grind in some of his crate engine builds. More on this on Team Chevelle.

"kettbo's" offering some good experience/infomation here, including true 0.50" tappet lift duration numbers. As mentioned, give Crane tech a call. Keep in mind, you dont have to stick to the catalog, as they'll vary the grind on request. Say you're looking at one of their profiles with 110 LSA, but prefer running a less overlap 114 on the street, they'll give you a part number for it. Purchase will still go through places like Summit or Jegs, but get what you really want.

Have to agree on that.
Only failures on FT cams Ive had were those XE fast ramps.

Now seeing cast core HR cams with the same type of lobe failing too.

Not so sure its the oil issue anymore maybe crappy metal/hardening?

Last solid roller I had was verrry agressive ramp in 60 mi it tore a lot of stuff up.

Went with a custom Isky grind, happy medium on the ramps. Quick enough to make power not slow enough to make a pig. See how that works out.

I went mild HR for the Elky's second engine,461 Cubes 10.5:1 CR 3.42 gears, 3000 stall
237/245 .604"/.600" 110 LSA This is a fairly mild cam with moderate spring pressures, good manners. I use solid roller lifters

I am close to Delta Camshafts in Tacoma, had them grind this puppy up for me on a billet core.
