Default Sport Mirror Switch

I have pretty much decided on switching from the chrome mirror on my 76 to sport mirrors on both sides. I know Ive heard a zillion posts on this(and actually probably every problem I'll ever have, but dont seem to remember until I get to that point), but one thing I dont remember seeing is if the driverside mirror with the adjusting cable that runs to the inside can be adapted to fit on a 76 interior. Has anyone done this, and have pics...or at least think its possible (actually feasable...anythings possible w/ $$). Or is their a sport mirror w/o the cable?

Thanks

I love this place!!!

You have basically the same door panels as 77 which was available w/ factory installed sport mirrors. Have them & would do it, expect no problems.

I put sport mirrors on my 1976 years ago. I don't recall any real problems. Make sure that you run your window up and down a few times to insure that the cable routing arc provides sufficient clearance.

I installed some Firebird/Camaro sport mirrors on my '69. Passenger's side was easy but the drivers side, with the cable took some "finagling". I'll post some pix so you can see where I located the remote control on the driver's door. I'm not sure if your door panels are the same, but it might help.

Look just below the steering wheel. There is a natural cutout area on the back of the door panel that looks like it was made for the remote adjustment. It worked for my car, but you might have to adapt differently on yours.

Thanks for the feedback!!!

When I go to put the mirror on the passenger side I was thinking I could just make a template from the driver side door and reverse it...this would probably work right?

Thanks

If you get the same type of mirrors as mine, make sure you mount it about an inch further back than I did. Have your wife hold the mirror on the passengers side in place, moving front and back, until you are happy with the position. The windshield pillar on my car blocks about 1/2" of the front lower portion of the passenger's mirror. Also, you should pay attention to the gaskets that come with the mirrors. If you mount the gaskets too low, or too high, the mirror will not look level, it will tilt. Hope this helps.....
