Default steering coupler not available? options?

ordered a GM steering coupler from gmpartsdirect after reading up on my replacement options here. got an email from them today cancelling my order, reason, no longer available.

after reading JSs' great info on the subject, it leaves me wondering, what do i do now? what would be the preference(u joint or aftermarket repair kit) for a fix it once and forget it for the next 50k ish miles?

im gonna try my local chevy dealer, but it doesnt sound promising

tia!

There are aftermarket replacement steering couplers and rag joint repair kits available. Try Zip, Paragon, Ecklers, Corvette Central... If you do the U-joint, JS pointed out body movement on the frame can present issues; hence one reason for the rag in the first place..

Make sure it's painted red, not purple, the purple ones have less plys and no wire screen for grounding purposes.

The red ones can be found but they are scarce. I found one by calling around and having them pull the part and check the color.

Also, the rebuild kits are not the same, do a search there is plenty of info.

I've used the simple rebuild kits with no issues in the past. May not look NOS..but they worked fine.

Borgeson has them maybe? They stock regular rag type and tons of u-joints.

G'day,

Borgeson will have them, give Jeff or Gil a call on 860-482-8283 or www.borgeson.com. If originality is important, you can buy just the rag part and new, correct bolts, part # 000941, lists at $21.00 and have peace of mind.

Regards from Down Under
