Does anyone know the option code for the headlight washer system? I have them on my '71 and am having a reproduction window sticker made - and we can't find any reference to the washer system at all. Nothing in the build sheet indicates the washers and nothing in the Assembly Manual references the option code. It's not mentioned in the Service Manual at all. Any help is appreciated!!!
Re: Option Code for Headlight Washers? (BSiegPaint)
Still searchin.....
Build # Date Washers?
08879 ? Unkown / Customized
09117 G08 No - but does have 'D' shaped holes in drivers side bezel.
09177 G08 No - but does have 'D' shaped holes in one bezel.
09210 G09 No
10266 G18 No
10452 ? No
11064 March No - but has 5 port pump!
You're vette must have been made after March. It seems to have been a standard not an option...
That's why '68-'69 cars don't have the 5-port pumps - no washers :yesnod:
Re: Option Code for Headlight Washers? (BSiegPaint)
Was it really standard equipment? I can't recall seeing another washer system on a '71. Mine was built in September of '70 - number 2065. Wouldn't the 5-port washer pump be more prevalent if there were 21,000 of them out there? I could be COMPLETELY wrong - wouldn't be the first time... :D
....for Corvettes from 1970 thru 1972 (I think)
The other info. I posted was from the 1971 Corvette Registry
from research being done for NCRS work.....
Supposedly 1971 cars made from Feb. - Mar. were made w/o washers !
69 cars had them. From what I've read, the washers were standard for only a few years (maybe 69-71). I know the 69 has them though, mine does and my buddies does.
Re: Option Code for Headlight Washers? (BSiegPaint)
It's interesting as I dig into this more - and thanks for all the replies, everyone - the Service Manual doesn't show this feature at all - all pictures show a 3-port washer pump. The Assembly Manual shows the whole system and how the hoses run. They seemed to stop installing these at the factory in February, 1971 for whatever reason. And there is no code for this as an option or original equipment. Hmmm. I knew it was odd when I got my car years ago, but never this odd. And doesn't it seem like someone should be making a repro of this 5-port washer pump? Sounds like there would be a market for at least 4-5000 of them... :yesnod:
Re: Option Code for Headlight Washers? (BSiegPaint)
Unless you are interested in NCRS or Bloomington judging, just run a "T" off one of the windshield washer hoses and tuck it under the wiper motor. That probably eliminates 99% of the market for 5-port reproductions.
I don't believe it was an option. It was a standard issue, and they just phased it out. There is no indication of it on my build sheet for 1970. ~Juliet
The headlight washers were GM standard for 70 and only early build 71 cars. I have seen several Dec, Jan & Feb built cars with them.....my 71 is a March build and does not have them. On some of the early cars phased out, GM still ran the hoses for the washers, cut at both ends.... but did not install the headlight washers.
If you need a 5 port washer pump or parts for one get out your wallet, those pumps are now considered pretty rare and expensive....a nice rebuilt one will cost you 3-4 bills easy depending on how nice it is. I have some vendor names if you need them.
The headlight washers are pretty cool....I would try to get it working.
ccryder - I have the whole system and it is hooked up the way it is supposed to be, but the pump itself doesn't work very well. If the front hoses are hooked up, the pressure will barely dribble water onto the windshield. Plug the fronts, and it wokrs like new. I really need a rebuild kit, but would be interested in any vendors that would rebuild what I have. Thanks! :)
