1978 Car bogging down - carb issue?
I have a 1978 L88, almost all stock except for headers and cat free exhaust. From a stand still, if I floor it, the car bogs down for a minute and then goes. I tried power braking to see if I could notice a difference and it doesnt even spin the tires. When i am moving, and I floor it, i can feel the secondaries kick in and it takes off properly (or so I think).
Anyone got any suggestions?
Quadrajets use a spring loaded flap to control the secondaries which can be adjusted along with a vacuum pull off can and linkage to hold the flap closed at low rpm. Check to make sure the linkage is there and that it is holding the secondaries closed until they lose vacuum.
If for instance your accelerator pump is bad, you will get a bog when you open the throttle due to lots of airflow but not enough fuel.
Then as the transition or main fuel circuits in the carb start flowing, the car starts to accelerate.
With the engine off, look down the carb while moving the throttle. You should see two strong streams of fuel squirting into the primary bores. If you dont have that, the accelerator pump is most likely bad.

Most likely the spring needs adjustment. You need to add resistance to the secondary top flap opening.
