Just got my car a few days ago and ordered a schematic but could use some suggestions before it arrives. When I turn off the car the temp gauge stays at 180 and hovers between 200-220 when running, gas stays at 3/4 and shows full when running, oil stays at 40 and goes to 80 when running. The volt meter appears to be working fine. So I've searched and read about bad grounds (that was a 76) and/or possible bad circuit card behind cluster. Any ideas to help troubleshoot this issue and where to start? How to test cluster circuit card? thank you....
That's an awesome link, Roger. I'm going to have to bookmark that one... just in case down the road I need it.
retaf: Here are pics of my '79 L82 gage cluster. I pulled mine to clean the 31 year old dust off from behind the gage lenses. Hope they help. Also, if it's a contact/grounding issue, I've found DeOxit Gold spray to come in handy. Can be purchased at Radio Shack or Amazon.
'79 Gage cluster from behind (still in car):
'79 Gage cluster removed to clean up:
If you haven't already, order the '79 Assembly Manual (pdf file works great for searches). It will have good pictures of removing the shift console, then the upper gage cluster. There are too many hidden screws, etc., to attempt it without good pictures. You will save a lot of headaches, and broken pieces with the Assembly Manual handy.

But you can print it.. The customer called and was using Chrome. When you use Chrome you must hover on the lower right hand side of a PDF with your mouse to print. A printer option box will appear!
I believe he now has this printed and ready to go. The file is locked for editing and other things but printing is an option!

Hey that was me! After I hung up I tried it and it only printed a blank page and that was all. There is some sort of security lock on the document. So I forwarded the link to my neighbor and asked if he could print it and he said:
"Sorry, Pete, can't do it either. It Is noted as a secured pdf document and I read that they can stop you from printing in that way. I couldn't copy/paste either."
I would appreciate if you would check this out again and try printing it because I tried it on two separate home computers with their own printers and my neighbor couldn't print either. I'm going to be working on my gauges this afternoon....thanks
