Default brakes Help

I parked my 76 and took out the center console to replace some bulbs and put it back. I started it up andwhen I started it the brake pedal went to the floor and brake lights came on they still work but not much there. when I shut off car the pedal comes back up. while engine is running I pulled the vaccume off power brake booster and pedal came back up but engine died to. I was also had the emergency brake on while I did the work on console.Could I have done something under the console to cause this or what could it be. Just before I bought the vette about 5 monthes ago the guy that had it had new rotors and brakes put on back, and also a new master cylinder and power booster put on. Everything was working good untill I messed with console and emergency brake, and doesnt seem to have any brakes sticking either.. help me I want to drive... thanks

I would say that you left a vacuum hose disconnected somewhere in the console. If you have a "tree" on your manifold where all the vacuum hoses connect to, start your car up and pinch them off one at a time and see if you have a vacuum leak. when you pinch the one going to your heater/ac controls and your brakes are fine, you know that you left a hose off in the there or knocked one loose. Your emergency brake shouldn't have anything to do with your pedal. check for leaks, maybe something decided to fail at that "momement"

First thing to do is eliminate leaks as the culprit. Open the master cylinder and confirm that the fluid level is still near the top. It sounds too coincidental that you would spring a leak during that short period of working on the console, but you never know.

Nothing in there should have any real effect on the brakes. Its just a coincidence.

So what would it be do I need a new powerbrake booster? the vacuume for the booster hooks directly to the carb.

Check for leaks at the fittings on the lines and calibers. One could need tightening up.Air gets sucked in where it leaks.Ask me how I know.

Disconnect the vacuum hose from the powerbooster and plug the hose so you don't loose vacuum from the engine. See if you still have brakes (just like manual almost). It seems like that would tell you if your booster is bad or not.

There is no vacuum under the console with the exception of vent/AC controls. Nothing to affect brakes.

If the system is properly bleed out, which you need to check first, I would suspect it has a bad booster.
