Need help i just rebuilt the big block 454 install it was all set to spin tyhe engine to fine tdc to install distributor but get nothing. now the dash is apart i get lights and radio but no starter. im thinking naybe its the paint on engine from the ground wire from frame.but is there a interlock or clutch pedal in or something that im missing
Methinks that your problem is that something that is supposed to be connected, isn't. I can't see it from here, so you are gonna have to get your test light out and get cracking. Sorry I couldn't be of any real help, but there it is.
Assuming it started just fine before the engine swap, I would think its a simple wiring issue. Hook a test like to the starter wire on the solenoid and check for power. If you're getting power but the starter's not engaging, or even trying, then you don't have a good ground or dead battery. If there's no power, then start working backward from the starter until you get power.
I'm in the process finishing my 454 install into my 76 (automatic tranny). Love to see some pictures of yours. I'll have to post some of mine also. Is your's gonna be for street or strip, or both? Mine is for both, hoping to run just under 12.0's. My engine dynoed about 480hp, 560ftlbs torque. I was a little disappointed with those numbers (long story).

Thanks for the reply I got the starter issue figured out i feel so silly now i installed the smaller starter wire on the wrong post ops after taking the header off and switching the wire motor spins. My set up is a 454 with a 4 speed im look to just tear up the street with it . I have lots of pics i took when installing the motor just dont know how to post them yet
