On the weekend went to my local lube shop to have tranny and diff fluids replaced in my 81'......no problem with the tranny but the tech said they could not access the diff plug due to rear suspension was in the way ??
When I bought the car it had original 9 leaf suspension which I had upgraded to TRW composite...does this sound right, do I have to have rear spring removed for diff fluid change ?
Do it yourself! Jack up the car-you don't have to remove the passenger side wheel but it makes it easier.Remove the diff plug with the appropriate socket. Buy a cheap suction hand pump for $5 from harbor freight or someone else to remove the old fluid, use the a 75W-90 gear oil of your choice and squeeze it in until the fluid comes out of the hole, replace plug-done! The whole deal should cost you about $20-25 dollars depending on the fluid used and whether you need to buy the Posi GM additive which I do not use with the synthetic gear oil I use.
