Hi all I have a 79 vette (looks like bat mobile) with what i believe to be a lemans front aftermarket clip without the airdam not sure if there even is one for clip. I ordered one for original 79 but due to lemans clip didnt fit. There is plenty of air coming through bottom cause its mostly open at bottom unlike standard 79s. There is also air vents in clip above tires not sure if this helps or not with cooling.. I bought car used about 3 years ago engine was supposedly rebuilt 3 months before receipt papers showed probably not original 350 but not sure.. Car has no ac no heater hooked up.. My problem is when it is above 90-95 degrees outside my vette overheats upto 230 degrees and that is within a 20 min trip to town with a couple of lights. It gets hot faster at a stand still.. If it is cooler outside it doesnt seem to get hot but havent tested it for a long period of time. If it is just sitting running it gets a lil hot but not 230 hot.. I had a electric fan and a standard fan both on it when i got it both pulling air but i thought they may have been fighting so i pulled electric off and it was the same way.. My buddy requested a clutch fan and instead of a 180 ther a 165 just to see and it seem to take a lil longer to heat up but today found out it will 225 degrees when i got to gym and it cooled while there and then about 230 when i got home both 20 min trips no ac what so ever but i live in texas and over 100 degree weather lately.
The weird thing is though when car first starts temp goes up kind of fast then when temp of ther is reached it opens, car cools down but from then on car just gets hotter and hotter like ther is stuck or something.. The car has been modified with clip so shroud and all is probably not lined up properly which i have read could do it along with lots of others.. Car has been this way since I bought it on that cool afternoon (ran fine).. I dont have vette owners money but want to show off my vette what advice can you give me maybe a good reasonable vette mechanic in the dallas areas number lol or just where to start first.. I have dirt track racers working on it now so it cant get worst lol no offense dtr..

Reason: misprint
Lol that wasnt really the response I wanted to hear.. U r just kidding about the engine damage right? I have actually thought about selling it was offered 7500 for it a year ago by my mechanic buddy but just couldnt part with it. The kit that is on it makes it look unlike any 79 I ever seen picture is still pending r u would see what I mean, which makes it harder to sell.. I have a clean 66 mustang inline 6 pony material that will be sold before it my wife said and the mustangs hers lol.. I appreciate the offer though gkull.. Cool black vette in pictures as well..

Did you read the thread that Gkull gave you a link to? It's all about fixing overheating 'vettes, probably something in there that might help you out.

LOL It's a joke. You must not have looked at the link about fixing wide body or daytona front ends
That is not a burning black Vette in the picture. I work on historic race cars and that is a 500 or so ci big block injected Can-Am car that blew rods out the side of the Aluminum block causing an engine oil fire. It was so sad because that car was beautiful and I loved working on it.
Thanks for pointing out the link I missed it completly.. It has alot of info there I am passing on asap.. I am not very mechanically inclined so I wont be doing the work.. Thanks again
