Default power window wiring question 69

hey everyone,

I'm trying to get my power windows working again and I was wondering if someone could help me with the wiring. My car doesn't have the stock wiring harness for the power windows... what did that wiring harness look like?
what i have working so far is a positive ignition lead heading to each the window switches, with two leads coming out of each of those to supply +12V to either the up or down circuit on the motors, with the motors grounded to the frame. On one motor there is a ground tab where i can plug in a ground line, on the other motor there isn't a ground, like the casing of the motor is grounded to the door metal. will either setup work for the ground? I was having problems of the windows not going up all the way unless i helped them by hand, ant at one point i had to put in a bigger amp fuse because the motors drew so much current.
isn't there supposed to be some sort of regulator in the system?

any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

nicholas

I had the same problem with my windows ('69 also). The contacts were dirty on the motor. Sanded them lightly and used some WD40 and they work better than ever.
