I have been tinkering on the car since I got home from work. Got the passenger side headlights working, replaced the horn, installed a coolant resevoir and tried to get the wipers going. I didn't have any luck on the wipers but I decided that it was time for a ride. It ran great. The temp never went above 170 and this only has a flex fan without any shrouds. Lots of banging but the good news is that I get the same noise while stationary so it's not the drivetrain. I think the new exhaust is contacting in a few places. I don't have a working speedo or tach yet but I tapped the gas in second and the thing has some gusto.
The fan belts started squeaking and the lights all went really bright. I would guess that something bad is happening inside the alternator?? Any ideas?
A little more tweaking and I'll be ready for the Kinston dragstrip.
Overcharging will cook your battery and put undue stress on all other electrical components. If its overcharging, fix it fast, or you'll see the battery acid seeping out the top of the battery...hence cooking it.

Re: Just went for a ride (Jvette73)
Congrats on the first ride Rottie. Keep an eye on the battery. Like someone said it doesn`t take long for the battery to boil. I went to town on mine and noticed my radio kept cutting itself off. Come to find out the radio was protecting itself from overvoltage. My regulator died and I was pegging the voltmeter.
Next time you start the car, have someone rev the motor and check the voltage at the battery or at the alternator and see what is happening there. Should be about 14.5 volt give or take a few tenths.
Keep up the good work. :yesnod:
