I'm thinking about installing a B & M shift improver kit in my 81. The engine is stock except for true duals and Flowmaster 50's. Anyone have any experience with this kit??
Basically, as long as the current trans doesn't have any problems, the transmission should be better off with a shift kit installed. Quicker shifting = less slippage = less heat = Happier Trans.
I used the Towing/HD option. It's a good improvement, but if I do it again, I'd go with the Street/Strip.
One last thing. I put a adjustable vacuum modulator in later on so that I could adjust the shift points. It's really easy to get to while you're down there and it's about $12 at your local auto parts store.
The kit & the modulator made an incredible difference in how the trans & car perform. I love it! :yesnod:
Make sure you know what trans. you have. TH350 or Th350C. I made this mistake and had to order a different kit in mid job. If I remember right a couple of other people ran into the same thing.

Yup, I would be one of them.:bb
The 350C needs the "twice the price" kit :mad
Search the thirdgen.org trans forum archives for "B&M and TransGo " . Unless the experts over there (owner of ProBuilt etc.) don't know what they're talking about, TransGo is the way to go.
Look in the shiftkit section at http://www.drivetrain.com/
If you have the original trans it will be a TH350C. Can be identified by an electrical connector present at the driver side of the trans.
Thanks for the heads up on the guy from Pro Bilt. He seems to be the tranny guru on that forum. :yesnod: I've e-mailed him a couple of questions and will see if he responds.
How do you tell the difference between the TH350 and TH350C?
If I remember right it has to do witha lock-up converter. If you have one you have the TH350C. Mine was installed on my 80. So if you have a 81 chances are good you have the same thing. And n8370c is right about the price. Order thru Summit or Jegs for the best price.
