Hummm...I just had it in the back of my feeble mind that it was related or part of tha AC harness....
...So .. that idle solenoid might have been std equipment on all 1974 4bbl V8 passenger car engines..???

I can't speak about non-Corvette applications.
AFAIK, there should be a single light brown wire with a black connector running along the driver's side valve cover to power the solenoid. This is energized with 12V any time the ignition is 'on'. No connection under any circumstance to A/C.
