Default '78 Headlight Issue

My problem is that the pass. side headlight will raise but will not go into the lock position when I use the headlight switch.
My stop bolt is not touching the frame yet.
If I loosen the 3 bolts on the "M" bracket and adjust it so that it is pulled further towards the front of the car , I can manually pull up the headlight and it will snap into the lock position no problem. ....This is without the springs attached though.... If I put the springs back on then try to pull the headlight into the lock position - it simply won't go there.
Not sure what else to try.
thanks in advance

Hi goliath1

I have had these assemblies out of the vehicle to overhaul and have a unit that will function properly.

As you already know it takes a small amount of effort to lock them into an 'open' position.

I took all 'pivot' points of the assembly and cleaned them to be free of any lubricant. I then lubricated all pivot points with 'Lubriplate' grease and flexed the unit back and forth.

Once done I had reassembeld headlight assembly with the required clearance. I knew the 'power' of the vacuum unit was limited but with the new lubrication it had enough 'power' to operate the system with success.

Good luck to you.

Does the UP side (green hose) of the actuator hold full vacuum ? If not the witches hat seal could be leaking.
