I know that this may come as a shock to most of you, but I have some problems with my vacuum system. I feel pretty good about my vacuum lines, and I have replaced most of the valves and seals that should be there. My car wants to die when sitting at red lights, but runs great the rest of the time. I know that I have leaks and will be buying a vacuum tester today to help resolve those issues. My question is in reference to the check valve up by the driver side windshield. I replaced the valve about 6 months ago due to my wiper door and headlights not popping up. When I turn the car off, I can hear all of the vacuum escaping from the valve. I read that it should hold the vacuum, but I'm not sure. It makes sense that if it releases the vacuum when the car is off, that it's releasing the vacuum when the car is running as well. Am I correct in this assumption????? If there is a problem with the check valve, I can replace it, but why would it only last 6 month's when the previous one lasted for years?????
That would be a good place to start with your new vacuum tester :D the checkvalve. Should free flow toward the motor and hold vacuum the other way
If I remember right , there is suppose to be a little filter before the check Valve to prevent dirt from shortening the life of the filter. Also make sure there is no leaks in the vacuem canister.

Nasty leak   . If you have the old owners manual it explains that the headlight/wiper door system should work a few times after turning of the engine (mine works once because it is old). Sound like your check valve is bad/leaking. Do you have a filter between the intake manifold port and the check valve? If you don't have the filter dirt may have damaged your new valve.

from Ecklers or any other Corvette parts supplier. It costs about $5.00. It is a little white plastic housing about the same size as the check valve.
