There may be a difference whether its a close ratio or wide ratio tranny, I had the close ratio b/w in my 78 before i added the TKO. Not knowing what a chrysler 883 in reverse sounds like I couldnt say but the close ratio tranny I had, exhibited a very slight, barely audible whine in 1st gear only, nothing like any car ive heard in reverse.
Wide ratio cars ive been in didnt have any whine at all best that I can recall.
You might check to make sure the tranny is lubed properly and see if that changes anything, if you havent already.
