Default pulling out the engine today!

Like it or not. I drove it to work yesterday and iot went ok. At lunch I could not get it to go over 40 mph.
took it to a shop, had 2 other C3's in there.
so to make a long story short they need to put in a new carb and timing chain.
they wanted to pull the motor anyways so I said lets just while were at it; put a new edle 1406 carb and Performer RPM manifold, Accel HEI w / vacume adv, remove the smog stuff and the cat.

I'm sick of guessing so might as well pull it out and do it right.

new main seals, gaskets, oil pump, water, and fuel pumps and new paint on the block.
costing me about 900.00 plus the stuff I bought at pep Boys 662.00.

So I will have about 1500 into it total. I dont think thats 2 bad.

Well all that ought to get past the 40 MPH. While your timing chain is coming off any thoughts to a new cam?

YES!
I went and took them the new Edel carb, rpm intake and Accel dist and I told them while ur at it, might as well put a better cam. I told them I didnt want anything too rad since its still got stock heads and internals.

I'm not sure about the RPM intake ...2 big??. I was looking for air gap but they were out.
also getting new oil pump fuel and water pump plus new main seals and of coarse valve cover gaskets.
He is also going to clean up the covers nd DA the fins, remove all smog stuff, including cutting off all the xtra crap on exhaust manifolds and weld up the holes, and cat delete.

he didnt think it needed anything in the internals because it is very tight and doesnt use any oil.

I would check compression and do a leakdown test on all cylinders to be sure. With stock bottom end and heads it wont handle too much more cam without a compression bump. Good luck!

I'd sure do a compression and leak-down test since it's coming out.

IMHO, a re-ring is false economy as typically the piston-bore clearance is typically well out of spec, especially for cast pistons. Ditto on the bearings - putting in new bearings is more likely to cause issues than prevent them.

IMHO - if it's running, leave it alone. If you're tearing it down, overhaul it.
