I see in the Summit catalogs all the time, spacers that go between the carb. and the manifold. They claim the spacers will give you better performance and gas milage. Anyone have any knowledge of the spacers? Do they really live up to the hype?
There are performance gains to be had from these spacers. They increase the plenum volume under the carb. I put one on my car with very noticeable results. Problem on a Corvette is fitting it under the hood.
My throttle response sharpened up enough to notice when using a 1/2" phenolic spacer. However, the overall HP increase may be very small or non-existent. The real benefit I got from the phenolic spacer was preventing the heat flow to the carb (percolation problems went away). Make sure to match the spacer type to the intake. Also, a drop down air filter will give you the underhood space you need.
