When replacing my heater hose, I noticed a yellow vacuum hose (in picture) that has a hole in it. Can anyone help me identify what this vacuum hose is and what the effect of it being non functional is (besides not being a vacuum anymore ? It looks like hell on earth to replace as it appears to go behind the distributor cap and into the car (near the dashboard area).
I think this is the hose to the heater shut off valve; the vac hose will lead to the shut off valve which is mounted on the manual regulator lever, and would actuate when the lever is completely in the 'cold' [blue] position.
This lever controls the mixer flap in the heater, but also closes the hot water to the heater radiator.
Hence you have an vacuum leak, when the heater is on 'cold'

That's the heater hose shutoff valve. When the 'temp' control is on COLD it should shut that valve cutting off flow through the heater core.
There should be a plunger type valve on top of the heater core housing. That's the other end of the vacuum line.
