Default side pipes

im looking at ordering some sts inserts to quiet my sidepipes... i was told when i bought the car they were original 69 sidepipes.. does anyone know for sure if they will fit? everyone seems to talk about hooker pipes and not so much about any others....do they just slide in from the end?

You say "original 69" pipes.

Are yours Hooker style or OEM style?

If OEM, STS will not fit. The muffler is integrated into the pipes.

IF they are Hooker style, then they should work.

Post up a picture.

Here's what original '69 pipes look like without covers, or a car, (the 'H pipe connector' is not original)

no they wont fit. you would need to cut. t he pipes open and gut them then measure the inside diameter and find a baffle to fit

That looks like a C2 side exhaust, but again, I might be wrong.

Those are not OEM. You have long tube headers and "non-factory" connecting tubing. Looks to me that someone bubba'd a set of OEM "style" aftermarket side pipe covers and C2 pipes to fit the wrong headers and connecting pipes.

Your sidepipes have integral mufflers. No modding those.
I can't believe they are all that loud either....in comparison to other side pipes anyway. The style you have are the most restrictive and there for quietest out there.

Louder than normal exhaust? Probably. As loud as straight pipes. I doubt.

If you want something more quiet while maintaining the "OEM appearance", you could consider removing your C2 style side pipe mufflers and having some 3 inch pipe bent up in it's place. You could then install baffles inside the round 3 inch pipe to suit your needs.

I'd change the headers. Lose the long tubes. Lose the two 90 degree bends between the headers and pipes. Get a pair of headers designed for side pipes.

Does it matter the year of the motor when ordering headers?
