Default 383 installed!!!! A few small roadblocks left

Installed the stroker and put the trans by back in today. My pulleys don't seem to line up very well though. I had the same issue with the same pulley's on the old engine, but it really bugs me with the new one.
My friend who was over helping me told me that what I thought was an M-20 is really a saginaw trans. how reliable is a Saginaw trans. and is that the correct trans for a base 350 72?

Randy,

What pulleys are you using? I am just finishing my 383 install but I used all billet pulleys from March, except for the PS pulley which came from S&P. I had to shim the PS pump with 2 washers on the mount but other than that my pulleys lined up nice. Getting the right belts was another story.

I grew up in Shelby Township, how's the weather up there, I'll probably come up in June/July or September to visit relatives, I'd like to see how you set yours up when I do get up there.

I'm using the pulleys that were on the car when I bought it, but the exact origin is unknown. The car had a wee 0 five when I bought it that wouldn't rev over 4500 and they never gave me any trouble, so it didn't concern me that much. With the new engine, I'm a little more concerned about pulley alignment. The ps pump is the only one that looks like it lines up well. i'm considering some underdrive pulleys from corvette central, but I need them to look original. Weather in Mi sucks. 50 and raining yesterday while we were setting the engine. I had to put the GTO out in the rain while we were working in the garage.

A Saginaw will have a cast iron case, a Muncie or Super T-10 will be aluminum. You will probably break the Sag eventually with a stout 383 and hard launches.

The trans case is aluminum. How do I tell a Muncie from a T-10?
