When the PO replaced the QuadraJet with an Edlebrock 1406, he didn't transfer over the idle stop solenoid. My understanding is this solenoid is to prevent dieseling.
Big deal to have this solenoid or not so much?

and for helping to slowly reduce the idle speed (for things like the AC system), i dont have AC anymore and i dont have the solenoid and my car doesn't diesel. do you have other smog related equipment still on the car ?
No. The solenoid pushes the carb open to the idle position any time the key is in the 'on' position. The idle speed is adjusted by turning the hex head on the end of the solenoid piston. That's why it's a hex head.
I forget the name for the mechanical stop on the carb but 400RPM is about right. Curb idle is usually fully warmed up in neutral for manual or in drive for automatics.
Correct,..the curb idle is set using the idle solenoid. When the ignition is shut off, the plunger in the solenoid retracts which completely shuts the throttle blades which prevents dieseling.
If you don't suffer dieseling, then simply set the curb idle to specs using the adjustment screw in the mechanical linkage.
If she diesels, report back. There are several fixes.
