Anyone have an exploded view of how the horn goes together at the steering wheel ( inside ) I bought all new parts but don't know how exactly they go together ?

See Jim Shea's papers. Should be sticky at the top of this section.

http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/?cat=5 Somewhere in there is exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks Roger I have all those parts and many more brand new including this one which I think is the "spring" to return the the horn button back to normal position after honking the horn ?

I hate to say it but the blown up diagram isn't enough for me it is hard to understand exactly how it goes together is there
any other diagrams out there ?

Post #4 in this thread shows the insulator your holding,it might be a little deeper in the column than you thought.

That's pretty mature I'll have to make a note of your help. And you've been here 10 years and no one has helped you ? Maybe you could point us to a post where someone was as childish as in your post, the posts go back almost 10 years, maybe there is one but do you think it is smart to post something that ridiculous in my thread ?

Wilcox Corvette: Thanks for the help, what year was that car ? My '80 doesn't look like that. *Edit sorry upon further examination it is the same, I am hoping I don't have to dig down that far and only have to replace the spring, eyelete and reatainer / insulator into the tube poking thru the hub assembly. Everything above that is new.

At this point I think I only have to replace the spring, eyelet and insulator because the housing for this assembly is on that big spring in pic E2 and goes thru the hub assembly. Pic E1 shows the eyelete in the tube in the upper right part of the hub

Only I am not sure how to install it. It also says to cut the eyelet or pin to 3/4" for my year.

I am assuming this is how the horn works, when you push the horn button it results in the eyelet making contact with the big spring which acts as a conductor to active the horn ?

It hard to see from the pic but that tube pokes right thru the hub assembly and has a notch at the top to hold the black insulator in, you can see the little nub on the small black insulator. They say to cut that eyelete to 3/4" and that is exactly how high that tube part is, problem is I am not sure how to assemble these three parts in the tube

I am going to try and use the existing spring in E2 so I don't have to pull anything else apart

And thanks for the extra links Roger I am going thru them right now

You have them in the correct order in your picture, don't cut the pin at this point.
Install the spring, slide the little black plastic piece over the pin, install pin head down against spring, lock black piece in,pin will be wobbly but once you install the horn contact it will be fine.

"I am assuming this is how the horn works, when you push the horn button it results in the eyelet making contact with the big spring which acts as a conductor to active the horn ?"

No, these pieces don't move after installation, they just bridge the gap,you could just stretch the spring out and use that in place of all 3 pieces and I've seen that done.

The horn contact does all the work.

You just drop the spring in the hole, then put the aluminum pin through the black eyelet. Then look at the eyelet and you'll see on pin. This is the only thing that holds it in place. Then look at the hole in the hub and you'll see a slot for it. The black eyelet pushes down in the hole and then you slightly twist it to hook it. It's kind of a pain but you'll get it.

I made this, i think it explains better... A bit crude but might give you an idea.

The horn is a grounded system, so the horn is waiting for ground. The cap snaps on the upper contact and is insulated until you push it. This makes the upper contact complete the grounding and the horn blows.

So that's how the spring, eyelet and insulator go into the hole. The spring goes in then the eyelet with the large part or head goes on top of the spring and then the insulator goes in and holds it all together ?

Btw thanks for going thru all the trouble of making a diagram
