Has anyone used the clear valve covers? If so, do they cloud up when the engine is running? How do they stand up to heat? I'm sure if they would work for everyday use, but to have them for a car show, to me, would be kinda .
I have to agree with you on the fun factor of a clear valve cover. These engines are such interesting examples of engineering I feel it would only add to the experience.
It's a show car and you are making it easier to see.
The clear valve cover is going to get oil sprayed all over it when the engine is running. One web source said Lexan is good up to 212 degrees so if your engine runs hot you might have some warping issues.
Those would be nice at a show if you wanted to go through the effort of removing your regular valve covers and bolting those on. I'm wondering how they would resist leaking on a hot engine.
Hot Rod mag highlights their "Power Tour" this month and there's a 355 in one of the articles which is running clear valve covers... seems the car made the entire tour with no issues. I haven't worked at GE Plastics since the 80's, but seem to remember there were Lexans even then with much higher flow points than 212 degrees. Not all polycarbonates are formulated equal!
