Default Vacuum secondaries? Electric choke? Need help with new carb selection.

I'm getting ready to purchase a new carb for my car ('77 L-48). I'm shooting for an Edelbrock Performer 600cfm. But I don't know what to choose. I want an easy install. What do you guys suggest? What configuration should I go with? What are you all using?

Thanks. :)

Hooking up an electric choke is a one wire job. I sure did like my installation on my Q-jet, so much so that I put one on the Holley when I changed carbs.

I put a Speed Demon 650 Vac Secondary Elec Choke on my car. The previous was a Carter AFB 600 electric choke that ran fine (basically identical to the edelbrock). The demon is more trouble starting off...the carter would just fire and idle...the demon runs great after the temp guage starts climbing. The switch on mine also included a Summit Crosswind intake in the place of the performer. Out on the street, I can notice a difference in performance...not sure what's attributed to the Demon or the intake...but I do think the Demon allowed me to pick up a few ponies. The Carter/Edelbrocks are hard to beat from a pricing and manitenance stand point though.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've never messed with a carb before, and I don't yet know what I'm doing. Because this carb will go on a fresh engine, and I'll be breaking in my cam, it's especially important things are set up right.

So it looks like vacuum secondaries and electric choke it is.

Hey Joe,

I just ordered a book on Demons from Amazon. I noticed they also have books for Carters (which would translate to your potential edelbrock) and holleys. They are in the $15-20 range. Anyway I bought it, to try and make sure I have it tuned optimally, and to just understand in dept how a demon works.
