have an 81 and ready to make it a little stronger. have removed smog junk and put on true duels and advanced timing. runs good but now want to go a little farther. buy advice from a good source, am leaning towards alum heads and cam. so many different brands. any suggestions on best bang for the buck!!!!!!!!! thanks, namvet

Since the L81 is basically just an L 48 with a computer, there are tons of threads about heads cams, carbs etc... through searching. But an easy upgrade IMO is to go with Vortec heads, a matching cam and of course a vortec intake. The vortecs are better all the way around and can be found easily. As far as aftermarket I like AFR heads.

i think the vortec heads are over rated. the iron eagle heads work well, and require no machining for higher cam lift plus you can use the regular valve covers and intake. i think the center bolt covers look like crap too.
